So if you've been following my blog, you may have noticed I am somewhat of a...I don't want to call it "liar"...um, a teller of small exaggerated un-truths. For example - "Check the blog out soon! More updates will be posted!" And then three weeks later, the update might be posted. And another week after that, something else might get posted.
So, my small exaggerated un-truth for today...this will actually be my last Charleston post :) I claimed the pictures from the aquarium would be it, but...I misspoke.
I suppose this post isn't technically about Charleston...just about someone who lives there and something Owen received there. For Christmas, Owen received a very special gift from Aunt Katie. She was making him a cross-stitch blanket. (A little back-story...My great-grandma made each of her great-grandchildren a cross-stitch blanket when we were babies...all 35 of us. Jonah, the first great-great-grandchild, was the last baby to get a "Grandma Sewell blanket." My grandma had actually passed away a little more than a year before Jonah was born, but she had made one last blanket, in anticipation of some great-great-grandchildren she figured would be coming soon :)
So, when Owen and I went down to Charleston last month, Owen got his Christmas present. He got it on May 25th - exactly 5 months after Christmas. His blanket is beautiful (and very well-made...it survived it's first trip through the washing machine)!
Owen's "Aunt Katie Blanket"
Owen loves sitting on his blanket and playing with some toys!
Owen also likes to lay on his tummy and play with the noses and eyes of the animals!
I cannot talk enough about how much Katie has meant to me these past few months (really a lot longer than that, but especially since I have been a mom). I don't know if Owen and I would make it if it weren't for her willingness to answer my 300 questions a day. :) I am in complete awe watching her be a mom to Jonah - she blows me away. With the risk of sounding completely moronic and cliche, watching her be a mom to Jonah makes me strive to be a better mom to Owen. Not in some weird competitive sibling rivalry way, but just in a completely inspiring way.

That is one awesome blanket! What a cool gift!
how special!
it is so awesome the love that she obviously has for you and Owen... making that blanket, answering questions, etc.
sisters are wonderful... even if they are only by marriage.. as in my case.
btw, i'm back in cincy! when is our playdate going to happen???
so i know what cross-stitiching is but i took me a while to realize that the animals are actually cross-stitched and not just cut out and quilted on! that is spectacular! what an amazing gift and sister/aunt!
